Each team will be made up of up to 15 players, but only 5 players may be on the field at any given point. Each game will consist of two ten minute halves with a two minute half-time. In the result of a tie the game will go immediately into a three player shoot out in order to establish a winner.
Each game will be played on a 30x40 beach soccer field, with substitution zones on each side of the field. Teams may substitute players as often and as freely as they wish just as long as no clear advantage is given due to a substitution. Two professional club referees per game will be provided by Beach Soccer USA to ref each individual game. They will be enforcing intramural soccer rules and laws.
The teams will be split up into three groups of three decided at random on the day of the event. The teams within each group will play each other once. This will allow for three games per group and will guarantee two games for each sorority. The winner of each group will then go into a three team play-off, again each playing each other one time. In the event that each team wins one game and loses one game, the winner of each group will be decided by first the most goals scored, then secondly by the least amount of goals given up.
Once a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner has been established for USD, the winner of USD will compete against the other two universities to establish the winner of the San Diego Sun Cup.
